HOW TO ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS ON YOUR WEBSITE using Actinic Catalog
1. Actinic inbuilt encryption:
This is a Java program, which comes up in the web browser when the customer
gets to the point of putting in their credit card.
This is bundled free with actinic, and usually works, but has one or two niggles:
Not everyone has Java installed.
It doesn't show the golden padlock at the bottom of the browser window, although
not so many people are bothered by that these days, and the encryption of this
program is perfectly secure.
Generally, people report 10% loss in orders using actinic inbuilt encryption.
Once the customer has completed checkout, they are sent an order confirmation
email, you can also opt to receive a copy too.
You will get an email when a new order has arrived. You then click the
green down arrows in actinic, and the full order details are downloaded into
the Orders section of actinic.
You will need a Merchant account from your bank
You manually enter credit card details into your PDQ machine.
2. SSL certificate:
You pay a yearly fee for use of an SSL certificate.
It makes the checkout area of actinic secure, placing a golden padlock on
the screen, and changing the address to https://www...
It is foolproof.
Once the customer has completed checkout, they are sent an order confirmation
email, you can also opt to receive a copy too.
You will get an email when a new order has arrived. You then click the
green down arrows in actinic, and the full order details are downloaded into
the Orders section of actinic.

3. Payment service provider:
You pay a fee to a company to provide the secure checkout area, and take all
credit card payments for you. They send you lump sum payments periodically.
There are number of companies that do this, Worldpay being the market leader..

They also do security checks on all transactions.

4. Actinic Shared SSL
You pay a yearly fee to Actinic
when a customer enters the checkout phase they are transfered to Actinic's
secure server when the transaction is processed, the golden padlock in visible
on the screen.
Once the customer has completed checkout, they are sent an order confirmation
email, you can also opt to receive a copy too.
You will get an email when a new order has arrived. You then click the
green down arrows in actinic, and the full order details are downloaded into
the Orders section of actinic.

5. Online Credit Card Processor
You will pay a transaction fee for this service, in addition to your mechant
account fees.
The online service processes the credit card for you, and offers an authentication
service too. You receive the payment in your bank account fairly immediately.

email, you can also opt to receive a copy too.
